Kudos and Jacob

I am really happy today! I had Kudos for the very first time. Yesterday, Taffi was super selfish and did not share any of it with me! Today though, while Taffi was out on the deck hollering at people and making sure that they were not sleeping during thier shift, I snuck a Kudos in my mouth. Aaaaah, it felt like heaven. Infact, i think it became my God for a short time.

Tonight while tucking me in, Taffi told me a story. Taffi has been reading "Counterfiet Gods" by Timothy Keller and there was a story about my namesake in it. As per Eggo's persistant request, Taffi told us the story. Jacob was Isaac's youngest son (younger one of the twins). Isaac loved the older son Esau more. This made Jacob feel as if no one loved him. Whe he grew up, he escaped his town (tried to steal his brother's position), and went to stay with his mother's relatives. There he fell in love with a beautiful girl named Rabecca and promised her dad 7 ys of wages (Genisis 29:16-20). He was so crazy in love with her that he did not even feel the time. He had made her "image" or her "desire" his God. After 7 yrs, when it was time for the marriage, Laban (dad in law) brought a heavily vieled bride to him. The culture of those times indicated that he might have been heavily intoxicated, and he just "slept" with the girl. In the morning, it turned out to be Rebecca's "ugly older sister" Leah. When he protested to Laban, Laban offered him Rabecca for another 7 yrs of marriage. Leah had 3 kids with him, while Rabecca could have none.

So (baaaaaa.....sheep interuption), the point Taffi explained to myself was about making false Gods. Jacob made this idea of a perfectly gorgeous women (Rabecca) as a false God. But in reality, every Rabecca turns out to be a Leah. It happens in real life. We have a perfect dream, a perfect epiphany but the result never turns out to be as great as the initial idea.

Leah always wanted closeness to her husband. That was her God. She clearly had his "physical" presence in her life, but not his soul. He was never truly connected to her. Everytime she had a child she would say "now my husband will love me cause i have given him a child". But that was never the case. However, we see towards the end that she does grow spiritually. When she has her third son, she says "this time i will praise the LORD". So she was DONE with making romantic love her God.

I really liked this story by Taffi. It was fun. Taffi said there might be more to the story, does not know cause the book has not been finished. But has promised to tell me more about it tomorrow.
